Within defence law, there will be complex transactions at acquisitions and cooperative arrangements as well as at procurement and tendering.

In Swedish tendering, it is customary for FMV to attach, to a request for quotation, a contract synopsis, mainly consisting of a number of recurring standard clauses and in some cases references to the standard terms FMV tjänst and FMV vara.

Most countries have their own set of standard terms referring to national law. In the United States and the United Kingdom there are even specific Terms and Conditions developed for defence material procurement. In the U.K they are called UK Ministry of Defences, DEFCONS and DEFFORM and in the U.S Department of Defenses Federal Acqusition Regulation (FAR), and Defense FAR:s.

Not easily accessible, these terms and conditions are usually referenced by a number followed by DEFCON or FAR.
